Tax Planning and Advice

Good fit if
you want to know what your tax bill will look like before the year ends, not after.

The best time to talk about tax is before the financial year ends. After 30 June, most of the options have gone.

We look at your income, your business and your family situation, then tell you what’s worth doing: how income and expenses are timed around year end, how your structure is working, and where income can legitimately be shared between family members or entities.

☑️ Year-end tax position reviewed before June 30
☑️ Timing of income and expenses
☑️ Income splitting options explained, including the rules that limit them

Capital Gains Tax Advice

Good fit if
you’re thinking of selling a property, shares or part of a business, or you’ve already sold and need to work out the tax.

Selling an asset can create a tax bill that’s easy to underestimate. Property, shares and business assets each have their own rules, and the timing of a sale can change the result.

We work out your gain, check which reductions and concessions apply, including the small business CGT concessions, and explain your options before you sign anything. The government has also announced that from 1 July 2027 the 50% CGT discount will be replaced with cost base indexation, so how and when you sell may matter more than it used to.

☑️ Gains worked out for property, shares and business assets
☑️ Small business CGT concessions checked
☑️ Timing of a sale reviewed, including the planned move to cost base indexation

Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT)

Good fit if
you give your staff cars or other perks, or offer salary packaging, and want to know what FBT you could owe.

Fringe benefits tax catches many everyday perks without anyone noticing: work cars used privately, meals and entertainment, some reimbursements and low-interest loans.

We work out whether FBT applies, prepare and lodge your FBT return, and talk through salary packaging options, so you know the real cost to the business and the benefit to the employee before you set anything up.

☑️ FBT exposure assessed
☑️ FBT returns prepared and lodged
☑️ Salary packaging advice

Division 7A Advice

Good fit if
you’ve taken money out of your company, or lent it to a shareholder or their family, and aren’t sure how it’s treated.

Division 7A is the part of the tax law that stops people taking money out of a company as a loan to avoid tax on it. If a loan or payment to a shareholder doesn’t meet the rules, it can be treated as a dividend and taxed in the shareholder’s hands.

We check your loans and payments, explain what’s happening, and put a complying loan agreement in place where it’s needed, so you don’t find out about a deemed dividend after the fact.

☑️ Loans to shareholders and their associates reviewed
☑️ Deemed dividends explained and avoided where possible
☑️ Complying loan agreements prepared

Negative Gearing and Investment Property

Good fit if
you own an investment property, or you’re thinking of buying one, and want to know what you can claim.

Rental properties come with a long list of deductions: interest, rates, insurance, repairs, agent’s fees, and depreciation on the building and fittings. Getting them right each year makes a real difference.

We prepare your rental income and expenses, make sure your depreciation schedule is claimed properly, and explain how your property is treated for tax. The government has also announced changes to negative gearing for residential property from 1 July 2027, so if you own or are buying, it’s worth knowing where you stand.

☑️ Rental income and deductions prepared
☑️ Depreciation schedules claimed properly
☑️ How announced negative gearing changes could affect you

ATO Audit Support and Representation

Good fit if
the ATO has sent you a letter, a review or an audit notice, and you’re not sure how to respond.

Getting a letter from the ATO is unsettling, even when you’ve done nothing wrong. The first step is working out what they’re asking and what they’re really looking at.

As registered tax agents, we can deal with the ATO on your behalf. We read the notice, gather the records, respond before the deadline and keep you informed at each step, so you’re not facing it alone.

☑️ Notice reviewed and explained
☑️ Records gathered and response prepared
☑️ We deal with the ATO for you

Personal Services Income (PSI) and Personal Services Business (PSB)

Good fit if
you work as a contractor or consultant and mostly sell your own skills and time, whether as a sole trader or through a company or trust

If most of your income comes from your own personal efforts or skills, rather than from selling goods or running a business with staff, special rules can apply. These are the personal services income (PSI) rules, and they can limit the deductions you can claim and how your income can be split.

We work out whether the PSI rules apply to you, and whether you meet the tests to be treated as a personal services business (PSB). If you do, we explain what that means for your tax and set things up to match.

☑️ Whether the PSI rules apply to you
☑️ PSB tests checked
☑️ Tax and structure set up to match

Questions We Hear A Lot

Before the financial year ends on 30 June, and the earlier the better. After that, most of the options have gone. A conversation a few months out gives us room to do something useful.

The government announced in the 2026-27 Budget that from 1 July 2027 the 50% CGT discount will be replaced with cost base indexation and a 30% minimum tax, and that gains accrued before that date keep the discount. Check with us where it's up to before you decide to sell, and we'll show you what it could mean for you.

Don't ignore it, and don't reply on your own. Send it to us straight away. We'll read it, explain what they're asking and respond for you before the deadline.
